- Read chapter 2, sections 2.6-2.10, 2.14-2.15.
- Answer the study questions as assigned.
Study Questions
- List the combined assignment operators and give examples of each.
- Complete questions 2.24-2.26 in the Checkpoints.
- What is the difference between widening conversion and narrowing conversion?
Which is automatically performed in Java.
- What is a cast operator and what does it do?
- Briefly list the rules that govern the evaluation of mixed mathematical expressions.
- List the methods of the Math class shown on page 62.
Give Java statements that use these methods.
- Write the declaration for a double constant named TAX whose value is 7%.
- Complete questions 2.27-2.31 in the Checkpoints.
- Define the scope of a variable.
- What is a local variable?
- Write the import statement you must include at the beginning of your program in
order to use the Scanner class.
- Complete questions 2.34-2.37 in the Checkpoints.
- Complete Multiple Choice and True/False: 7-10, 13-15, 19-21.
- Complete Algorithm Workbench: 4, 7-11
- Know the answers to the Short Answer questions but do not include them with your
homework: 10-12, 14.
